This week the ABA website put up an incredibly moronic “Ask the CEO” question and answer which amazingly includes Joe Newman, ABA CEO, typing the following paragraph:
We have tracked many of the bloggers and know that they are motivated to do what they do by competitive leagues. And that is shameful also. But we’ve come to expect it from them too. I enjoy watching Chris Hansen’s To Catch a Predator because I fully expect to see one of the meanspirited bloggers surface there and we can place a face with a name.
Yes, the ABA CEO did put out a press release in which he compares ABA fans and detractors to pedophiles.
One writer for OSC shot back today with the most scathing critique of the ABA I’ve read thus far. It is bordering on libel at times… but if you want a very quick recap of what is wrong with the ABA, that’s a very good start. Obviously it’s an opinion piece, and it’s biased – but reading Newman’s unprofessional and embarassing defense of his league and the response from OSC gives a pretty good snapshot of what internet conversation about this league is all about.
I can’t back up the validity of either side’s claims and I won’t try to (other than saying that the CEO calling people child molesters because they disagree with him is not behaviour that makes me stoked on the ABA) comment on it other than to say that this whole thing is a mess.
